Sean Flynn
Sean studied Chemistry with Research in Industry (MChem) at the University of Liverpool, graduating with first class honours in July 2014. He spent his industrial placement year at Ineos Technologies in Runcorn, Cheshire, where he worked on the development of novel additives for the suspension polymerisation of vinyl chloride. Sean returned to the University of Liverpool to complete his undergraduate degree and undertook his fourth year research project under Steve’s supervision. His project involved synthesis of end functionalised hyper-branched polymers by atom transfer radical polymerisation and studied the influence of end group hydrophobicity upon polymer emulsifying properties. Sean returned to the group in October 2015 to start a PhD focusing on the synthesis of hyper-branched polydendrons and exploring how a variety of polymer parameters influence their application in nanomedicine. Sean stayed in the Rannard group as a PDRA, studying Transfer-dominated Radical Telomerisation (TBRT) until the end of 2022 when he moved to the Esther Garcia-Tunon Blanca research group in Liverpool as a PDRA.
